Hello to my fellow endurance advocates!
I began the sport of triathlon in 1989 as a
clueless former cyclist. I was rudderless and
pulled my training ideas from books and articles in
Triathlete Magazine. There were so many theories and
different approaches to training I usually was just left
overwhelmed. I bounced around from one theory to
another and ended up injured or over trained by race
day. It seemed like I was going all out in all my
training sessions. The harder I went in training
the slower I went on race day. Finally in 1995 I
decided to work with a fellow pro competitor, Roch Frey,
who was phasing out racing and becoming a full time
coach. Roch and I rode the wave of Ironman success
for years.
I didn't plan on getting into coaching, but,
when I decided to stop racing as a pro I started to
receive inquiries from some of my fellow pros looking
for advice. I helped out with suggestions then
eventually started writing the training plans.
They all did well and I found myself excited about their
races - it was like I was out there with them. I
loved it! I think about my athletes all the time
and promised myself that I would not take on more than 5
athletes at a time so I could really focus on each of
them.
I created PR Peak Performance to help athletes
that want to follow my training philosophies. All
the coaches involved are people I trust and have worked
with in the past and I'm looking forward to working
closely with them to implement successful training
programs.
This is an exciting venture for all of us.
Let's train safe and smart and achieve our
dreams at the races. I did and now it is your
turn!
Yours in sport,
Peter
