Crossing the line 1st in 1998. My dream race. Everything
went perfect! It was the perfect race. You always strive to
have that perfect race and for me it happened in 1998.

Crossing the line in 4th in 1996. I had DNF'd my two previous
times in Kona (1993 & 1994) and to finally cross that line and
make the podium for the first time was huge. I knew that day
that I would win in the very near future.

Duking it out with Van Lierde in 1999. Very classy guy. We
were the two favorites. I tried to grab some Gatorade at an
aid station but just couldn't get a grip. The next thing you
know Luc is handing me a bottle.
I love Ironman racing - these kind of stories happen all the
time.

Definitely, any one of Mark's wins in Kona were huge for me.
I got into the sport when Mark won his first Ironman. I would
read and re-read the articles on his wins in Kona. I never
really thought I would do an Ironman when I got into the sport
and now it is my profession. Yikes! I am a very lucky guy! |
