COACHES

  • Rumon Carter - $290/month

As an athlete and as a person, Carter owes a massive debt to sport for the lessons and experiences it has provided; as a coach, he works hard to pay back some of that debt.  By integrating the best available coaching skills and methodologies with his own hard-fought experiences in sport, Coach Carter works collaboratively with athletes to achieve their own unique successes, to pursue their personal passions and, always, to exceed their own expectations.

Carter is a nationally-certified (Canada) coach with 15 years experience coaching runners, cyclists, adventure racers and triathletes; he has worked with a cross-section of individuals from those who have never run a step in their lives to those hoping to one day step across an Olympic finish line.  His approach to coaching focuses on the uniqueness of individuals – their needs and their goals – while applying the time-tested methods of some of the world’s best athletes and coaches.

Before starting coaching, Carter was – and remains – an athlete.  He has been racing at the highest amateur levels in the sports of biathlon (cross-country skiing and shooting), cycling and triathlon for the past 20 years, highlighted by terms with the Canadian National Biathlon and Triathlon Teams and a 9:27 debut Ironman (Canada) in 2001.  His athletic career was put on hold between 2002 and 2005 while he underwent tests and treatment for an electrical cardiac condition.  Following surgery in early 2006, Carter is on his way back to fitness and plans to race the Flora London Marathon in April and Ironman Canada in August 2007.

Heart surgery, though, is simply a particular form of challenge.  Each of us faces challenges in the pursuit of our goals.  How we address those challenges on the other hand – the path we map over and around those challenges – is what defines us as individuals.  As athletes.

The job of a coach, as Carter sees it, is to help each athlete chart those paths and to be there alongside when the road gets steep.
