PETER'S JOURNALS

PETER RACING IN 2007?

December 28, 2006: Christmas Week!

This is my last week of taking it easy - well I mean slacking with my good eating habits and indulging with all the good Christmas food!  I love Christmas cake and cookies.  It is a major weakness.  I am going to let myself keep enjoying them for one more week until that big day of New Year's Day.  Why would I care about my eating habits you might ask?  Well, I want to do some racing in 2007.  No, I am not doing the pro triathlon thing again; but, I do want to be an athlete.

One of my hero's in the sport when I began triathlon was Jeff Devlin.  The guy was so strong.  If he could have learned how to swim with the top guys he would have nailed a few wins in Kona.  Anyway, Jeff never labeled himself as a triathlete.  He thought of himself as an athlete.  A guy who was fit enough to do anything he wanted.

Without fitness racing is painful.  With a certain level of fitness you get in a total zone on race day.  You are in such a groove and rhythm that it can actually be easy with adrenaline and endorphins firing away in the body.  I want to enter some races in 2007 and I want to be in the zone.

So when that clock hits midnight December 31st it will be time to think of moderation and to commit to a training program where I can think of myself as an athlete so that I can enter any event and not be afraid of suffering thru it.

Enjoy this last week of excess!

Happy Holidays.

Yours in Sport,

Peter
