March 10,
2005 --
Well, it is has
been a solid
month of
training in
Tucson. I have
just finished a
great four-week
block of some
good base miles.
There have been
lots of nights
where the lights
go out at 8 p.m.
because I am so
tired from the
training.
I am doing my
little hermit
routine, which
really seems to
work for me:
living by myself
on the outskirts
of town,
training solo
with my trusty
iPod mini and
hooking up with
a great masters
group for my
swims (although,
the 25-yard pool
thing is getting
a bit old -- in
Victoria, I swim
in a 50-meter
pool). Plus, to
be honest I am a
bit weak in the
flip-turn
department; so,
I am getting
smoked during a
lot of the
longer sets.
I am currently
on the road for
a few days doing
some cool work
with Specialized
and PowerBar.
Photo shoot in
San Francisco
for Specialized
then hanging out
with the sales
crew of PowerBar
in Colorado
Springs,
Colorado. After
this little trip
I have another
solid month of
more base miles
then it is back
to Victoria for
some
half-Ironman
training to get
ready for
Wildflower.
I am
super-motivated
with my training
this year. I
think the
biggest reason
for this has to
do with getting
signed by the
ultimate
triathlon team:
The Tri Dubai
Triathlon Team.
This team is
stacked with the
best
long-distance
triathletes in
the world
(Heather Fuhr,
Canada; Tim and
Nicole DeBoom,
USA; Joanna Lawn
and Cameron
Brown, New
Zealand; Chris
Legh and Kate
Major,
Australia; Simon
Lessing, UK; and
current Ironman
world champion
Normann Stadler,
Germany).
It is
unbelievable to
be involved with
such a great
organization and
team. I don’t
want to be the
weak link, so I
am training hard
and well. It was
great to see my
team mates Cam
[Brown] and Jo
[Lawn] win with
such dominance
at Ironman New
Zealand.
More soon from
AZ.
