KONA - #5 - GETTING RACE FACE

OCTOBER 14, 2004:
Legs off day!

This morning was eat as much as I can and get everything ready for the transition bag check in.  Since I have been doing Ironman I always make two days before the race a big eating day.  I kind of look forward to this day leading up to race week.  Eat, eat, eat.  When I do this I don't need to eat that much while racing.  Tomorrow morning is a big breakfast then normal lunch and a light Diner.

I got my new race wheels on the bike with a set of new speedy good luck tires.  The bike looks fast - now all I need are my legs to match the speed of the bike and we are good to go!

Yesterday I ran into Nina Kraft at the NBC interview.  She looks really fit!  Actually scary fit.  She has changed her body and looks more like a runner this year.  She lost the race last year on the marathon and I don't think she is going to let that happen again.

The only bit of training that I had planned for today was a very easy swim and an easy short water run.  I decided to get them in after the pro meeting and press conference to flush out my system.  Plus, it is a great way to unwind from the press conference which I don't really like to do.  The post race press conference is always fun but the pre-race one is the opposite - super boring!

While I was at the press conference and pro meeting my little lady friend took in my bike to Hawaiian Pedals to get tuned up by super mechanic Darren.  He has worked on my bike the last three years on the Thursday prior to race day.  Thanks to him my bike has worked like a dream the past three years.  Although, much of the work has already been done by my mechanic - WOODY at Oak Bay Bikes in Victoria.  He builds the bike and does some pretty cool trick stuff to it while Darren fine tunes it.  Good team!  Thanks guys!

To really get into the Hawaiian mental zone we are doing healthy pizza and 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler!

Two more sleeps then it's time to see what I am made of!

Aloha.
