October 13,
2003: Full
Day
Number 1 in KONA!
Aloha!
Just
completed day number 1 in Kona.
Today
was a really easy day of light training to make
sure I don’t tax my system too hard training
in the heat and humidity of Kona.
Basically
woke up at 4 AM; but, made myself lie in bed
until 5 AM.
No use getting it too early because there
isn’t really anything to do.
When I finally got out of bed, I was
craving my morning coffee.
Luckily, we don’t have any coffee in
the condo so I couldn’t cheat.
At
around 6 AM, I jogged to the Pier which is about
15 minutes away and did a nice 40 minute ocean
swim. The
water was somewhat rough with the rolling
swells; but it was nice to swim in the salty
ocean. So
nice! It
sure beats my last open water swim in Victoria
last weekend where I had to wear my neoprene cap
and long sleeve wetsuit.
I never got warm and had to have the
heater cranked in the car on the way home to get
my body temperature up.
Yuk!
After
the swim I saw at ton of the old triathlon gang
(Chris Leigh, Sian Welch, Murphy my Manager, the
voice of Ironman - Mike Reilly, Graham Fraser
and a ton more).
It was starting to get pretty busy so I
got out of there pretty quick and jogged back to
the condo.
After
breakfast I went to HP Bikeworks to pick up some
awesome swag that Specialized shipped for me.
Some very cool stuff.
Specialized always comes out with cool
stuff. I
am so happy to be back with them.
Basically
hung around the condo until 2 PM when I headed
out for a ninety minute very high cadence spin
on the highway followed by a short 15 minute
transition run.
Going
to have an early Diner then probably in bed by 8
PM.
Tomorrow
is a big day of training and sponsor stuff.
