KONA REFLECTIONS - THANKS EVERYONE

October 24, 2002: THANKS!

Thanks for all the support and kind words on the guest book.  Wow!

Kind of cool to see so many of you were reading my little notes while I was in Kona and that people were pulling for me on race day!  Shawn, the Webmaster, did an absolutely amazing job with the site.  He rules!!!!!  Thanks Shawn!

It sure felt good to cross that finish line again and to be on the podium at the Awards Banquet.  It was like being up there for the first time in 1996.  The highlight of the night was when I got up on stage and shook the hands of my fellow competitors and when I got to Thomas he said “It is good to see you back up here where you belong!”  Hell on Wheels is truly amazing person.  Last year when I was dropping out of the race he grabbed my jersey and said “Run with me Peter” which worked for a few kilometers; but we know what happened in the end – DNF.  I just wasn’t into the race last year.  This year I was so psyched to be racing!

The scary thing about race day was that I held back most of the day.  My goal was to finish the race and enjoy racing again.  Both were accomplished.  I had a smile on my face most of the day and I loved mixing it up with the boys. I was out there because I loved it!  I know I can win this sucker again; but I can do it while enjoying it as well too!  I can’t wait until next year!

I know most of you are curious to read my race report.  Part of me wants to share it with you; but it was such a personal journey out there for me that I don’t want to talk about it.  I think about my race and I smile.  Maybe as the next few weeks go by I will post something on the site but until then I want to keep it to myself.  I definitely found my love for Ironman racing again.  I will be racing for a lot more years.

I am not taking time off just yet.  Next weekend I am racing in a big running relay race here in BC with a bunch of fast triathlon friends.  The race is called the Hanney to Harrison Relay.  It is a point-to-point 100 km race.  I think I am doing the 3rd section - 15km.  The 15km is supposed to be the flattest part of the race that will be nice for my tired Ironman legs.  The day after the Relay I am headed to Hainan, China for the Hainan International Triathlon.  I have never been to China and I am looking forward to the experience.  I will be posting journal entries from China if I can get online access.

Promise to be better with my journal entries!

You guys rule!

Thanks for reading.
