PETER'S JOURNALS

KONA - #5 - BUSY DAY

October 16, 2002: Got up at 6 AM today.  I seem to be getting up later and later everyday.  There goes the plan to stick with the early morning rise all week.  Damn!  It was such a good plan.  Since it was nice outside I decided to go for a ride first thing this morning just in case the rain would come back.  I hooked up with my buddy Sean and we headed up the mountain to the upper highway and rode up on there.  The road is awesome – no cars and no triathletes.  There are a lot of coffee plantations and the road is also fun to ride with tons of tight corners.  We rode for about 2 hours and then did a short easy 20-minute transition run.  We were both drenched in sweat when we finished.  Luckily the condo complex that I am staying at had a pool; so, we both jumped in there to cool off.

Did a phone interview with the Canadian Press at noon and then had to rush to get to a Trek appearance at B&L Bikes that started at noon as well.  Luckily, I managed to get there pretty quick.  I got my new helmet from Trek after the autograph session.  I really like the new helmet – it fits awesome and the colours match the Canada’s flag.  Very cool!  I went to register after the B&L thing and it was empty.  I guess everybody registered first thing this morning; so, no lines for me.

I wanted to swim after registering; but, the pool was packed.  I am back at the condo and will probably swim just before dinner.  Trek is having a Diner party at the Trek house but it is a bit late for me.  I will eat before heading over there.  I tend to eat really early compared to most people.  I like to eat at 5 or 5:30.
